Corner of Success and Failure

I've been paying attention to street layouts, sign placement and such lately not really sure why.

However, what if Life threw out or used the same signs?

fail

Seriously, think about it. Then what you need to decide is what kind of "driver" would you be? Defensive? offensive? a lil of both depending on the circumstances?

Picture it.

Defensive driver, stopping the full 3 seconds at stop signs, yielding when told so. Following the speed limit or close to it. Now if you are following this metaphor, Then these are the people that would get passed up by life, missing the opportunities given merely because they took their time getting there. Sometimes.

Offensive Driver, Speeding their asses off, racing to get everywhere. Running Red lights, stop signs, yield signs. All because they think that its the "street racer" first one there wins. Sometimes.

Mixture of Both: Not a speeder, but certainly not going to sit in traffic behind the guy doing 46 in a 45 zone. stops briefly at the stop sign, and depends on where they are going determines whether or not they heed to that yield sign.

However what all three types don't stop and think about is that no matter what, the win is always circumstantial.

Chachi Says: you should really stop critiquing others driving style. Your preferred style, may or may not be right for others. It's kind of you to be concerned about how long it takes a goal to be reached, But you know what, don't worry they'll get there.

Urban Survival

So growing up in a small town means that no one really bothers you when you do certain things.

Bmxing, skateboarding, Roller Blading….. These types of things.

kickflip

The problem with being from a small town and doing these things is that there isnt many places built for such things. I look around downtown and see all these places that would be great. However many people find them problems. They feel that these kids are in the way and I feel bad for the kids.

Now before people start arguing with me that they have designated places for this, its not the same. A small skate park in an out of the way location does not provide the same challenges as a well built building downtown.

These activities keep the kids from committing crimes, doing drugs or just causing trouble in general. Let them skate, let them bike. Believe it or not they are learning. Maybe they will go home and build a quarter or half pipe teaching them not only construction and design but engineering and aerodynamics. If they are really into their deck or bike, then they will work on them teaching them mechanics. It really is helpful.

Not really sure what prompted this, just felt to urge.

Chachi Says: Next time you see a kid skateboarding and he falls, before laughing offer him some encouraging words, it may go a long way.

Life; the great puzzle.

You start out life not knowing much, but as the days go on you figure out little tricks and solve pieces that seem to make everything seem right. Picking up hints, comparing what you are doing to what others are doing and adjusting accordingly.

You begin as a infant, you learn that if you scream loud enough, you're likely to get what you want soon enough. It may take a few wrong guesses on behalf of your parents but they try their hardest. Then you grow and you begin to learn to do things for yourself. Once again it may take a few wrong guesses but eventually you get the piece to fit.

You continue like this growing through childhood and reaching preteen and eventually hit teen. This is where the music speeds up and everything starts moving a lot quicker. You begin to actually pay for mistakes that you make. Didn't study hard enough, practice long enough, or straight up get it right, oh they will be there to point it out. Sure it may hurt, you may get into trouble but next time you have a chance to redo it, or do you? What if, that leaves a hole where another piece would've fit properly? What if, that’s the move that causes an extreme uphill battle to get back to where you should be?

But wait! There's more. Oh Yes! There's more! See that's just your teen years! You now get to grow into adulthood! Yay for you! Now everything is for real. The decisions you make could now impact more then just you. You get a job, hopefully in your chosen field. Now you have to go to work to keep this job. Oh, don’t let me forget the part where you have to excel for them to have a reason to keep you! This isn't school, where as long as you show up and give it a shot you get to keep coming back. This is real, where the performance you give, the choices you make determine your status. That’s just the work side of it. You are also expected to have a social life as well! It's like playing Tetris, you can pay attention to one side of the board, but if you do, it's going to fill up quick and leave the otherside empty.

Which could lead you to making rushed decisions leaving holes or gaps where had you played the field evenly you may not have those. It takes skill to balance everything evenly. It's a feat not easily accomplished. If your lucky enough to pull it off then you are truly a juggler.

tetris2

I know what those holes mean to me. Do you know what they mean to you?

Chachi Says: I think life's main plan is to see whether or not you can keep those balls going. No matter the circumstances, no matter the conditions, no matter what.

May the Force be with you...... post number 101

As most blog posts do, this is all stemmed from a conversation with a co-worker. Which ironically, reminded me of a movie.

Randal Graves: Which did you like better? "Jedi" or "The Empire Strikes Back"?
Dante Hicks: "Empire".
Randal Graves: Blasphemy.
Dante Hicks: "Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.

It wasn’t that exact question, but close.

“Hey, which trilogy did you like better?” Now in my office there is no need to clarify which set of three movies were being discussed. Both parties involved knew the other understood what was about to happen. I looked at him and said 4,5,6. (the original star wars trilogy for those who are confused.)

And with that came a discussion as to why. Not that he disagreed he was leading up to a better question. So after discussion as to what we found wrong with 1,2,3 he asked what he was really after.

“do you think that the kids today, will look down at the original star wars trilogy and think that it’s a terrible set of movies?”

Wow. Umm. Yeah. I wasn’t prepared for that question. I had never thought about that particular point. So where better to answer that question then right here.

Do I, Chachi says, think that the kids today will look down at the original star wars trilogy and think that it’s a terrible set of movies?”

Before I answer this, I just want to acknowledge the fact that this in itself is a great question. One of the best ever asked to me. I just hope I answer it with the same justice.

Movies go with their particular times, each generation has a set of movies that it remembers as being great, breathtaking, memorable, amazing. (insert more adjectives here.) These are in just about every generation. It happens. However this set of movies has spanned across several generations and continues too. With the release of the New set it brought back and gained new fans of the old set “renewing” if you will the hype and fame it once had and carried on within original fans.

Now do I think children today will like the older set more then the newer set.
I would love to be able to sit here and flat out tell you yes, and point out why, but unfortunately I cannot. In fact I cant even tell you no. What I can tell you is that the influences in a child’s life will determine which one they like more.
If they have Nerdy parents then the answer could be yes. If the kid has a friend with nerdy parents the answer could be yes or no. If the child has no nerdy influences at all, then the answer is most likely no.
This is why I can’t answer the question.

I don’t have the time and/or money to influence the next generation with my opinions.

What I can tell you is that there is a good chance that the number of nerds alive having children is great and allows the tradition to carry.

Chachi Says: Do or Do Not. There is no try.

Socmed 2 / Post 100.

SocMed pt. 2
My city is better than your city! Na na na na na !
1241554283668

Need some evidence?

Here try this on for size.

One year ago, when I lost my job, Pittsburgh’s social media responded, They offered whatever help they could and gave me resources to help me find a new one. I was new to socmed at the time.

When someone had a tweet up heat up; (a get together to collect clothing and warm things for the homeless shelter) Socmed responded and gathered a huge amount of items.

When someone loses someone close we are there, offering condolences, offering prayers. In this case walking for a good cause and raising money for well needed research and preventive care. Such as the Burgh parents are doing here…. (all im saying is donate. I don’t need to tell you that its for a great cause.) http://www.marchforbabies.org/s_team_page.asp?SeId=698453&si

People jump at the chance to hang out together. Are we exactly a match no, We have similarities. Would we have meet randomly in a “Real Life” setting, unfortunately prolly not, which is sad but true.

I don’t have stats to back up what im saying here, I just have my experiences. And I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Chachi says: Parents always ask you “well if so and so jumped off a bridge would you?” because off socmed, I jumped off the mon wharf, Close enough for ya Ma? PFFFFFFFFFFFT: My city is better then yours!

Love you guys and girls!
